6-5-20 urgent need for blood donations

A couple months after residents stepped up to donate blood to alleviate a critical shortage due to the coronavirus pandemic the Red Cross is making another plea for donations.  Red Cross Wisconsin Chapter spokeswoman Laura McGuire says there is an urgent need for blood donations to prevent another blood shortage  as hospitals resume procedures that were temporarily paused this spring in response to the pandemic.  McGuire says the initial blood collection level from March has gone down significantly and hospitals’ demand for blood products has increased about 30 percent.  McGuire says people who want to donate are asked to call ahead to make an appointment.  Upcoming blood drives are scheduled for June 11 at the Church of Peace in Fond du lac,  June 16 at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ripon and June 25 at Edgewood Church in Waupun.
