Nobody was injured in a fire that severely damaged a Fond du Lac duplex. Shortly after 11:30am firefighters were called to 111 8th street and extinguished a fire in a first floor bedroom. The occupant s were not home at the home. The occupant of the upper unit was able to exit without injury. Fire crews rescued several adult dogs and several puppies. A hedgehog, lizard, and exotic birds all survived. Two exotic Sugar Gliders did not survive. There were no working smoke alarms on the first floor or basement level. The building was deemed uninhabitable. The Red Cross is assisting approximately 12 people displaced as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
