A Fond du Lac city councilmember wants the city to consider using alternatives to Roundup in city parks. The issue was brought up for discussion at last week’s city council meeting by councilmember Donna Richards. Richards says more than a thousand residents have signed a petition asking the city to consider alternatives to the toxic weed killer. Richards says the city maintains that Roundup is used safely and on a limited basis. But Richards questions if Roundup can be used safely. In September the La Crosse Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department switched to an organic compound after a group of local women asked the Department to reconsider using Roundup. Nearly 43,000 lawsuits have been filed against the parent company Bayer alleging Roundup causes cancer.
