7-17-19 heat wave

Public health officials are warning residents to take precautions during this heat wave.  Temperatures are forecast in the upper 80s to low 90s through the weekend with high humidity.   Fond du Lac County Public Health nurse, Joyce Mann, says extreme heat is defined as a long period of two to three days of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees.   Mann says people need to make sure to stay hydrated.  “Staying in air conditioning, drinking extra fluids, making absolutely sure you do not leave anyone or any pet in a hot car for even a few minutes.  In this kind of heat it’s deadly,”  Mann told WFDL news.    Mann says its also important to learn to recognize the signs of heat-related illness.  “Some of the symptoms to look for of being overheated are feeling weak, dizzy, feeling nauseated or having muscle cramps.”    Mann says those are some of the warning signs your body is not handling the heat.  If you don’t have air conditioning at home, find places in your community where you can go to get cool.    At the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds, the Expo Center and Rec Building are air conditioned and have been designated as cooling sites.
