A new study shows the village of North Fond du Lac is one of the most affordable places to live in Wisconsin. The financial technology company SmartAsset study ranks North Fond du Lac the second most affordable place to live in Wisconsin. Merrill is listed as the most affordable community. Village administrator Nick Leonard says that’s great news. “I think our tax rate is competitive. You look at our housing market, we don’t have a lot of higher end housing in the village so that helps bring that average down,” Leonard told WFDL news. “One thing we have to be careful of when looking at these types of studies is making sure that our housing isn’t decreasing in value.” The communities are ranked on an affordability index weighing property taxes, homeowners’ insurance fees and mortgage payments relative to income.
