The Fond du Lac fire chief says he was surprised to hear Governor Scott Walker’s administration was reversing itself on a fire sprinkler decision. The administration wrote a letter to the state Justice Department last month that the seven year old requirement that fire sprinklers be put in new apartment buildings with three to 20 units was unenforceable. O’Leary says the rule is one of the best ways to save lives and questions why this development comes now? A spokeswoman for the Department of Safety and Professional Services says the regulation went further than what is allowed in state law.
