8-24-17 new campbellsport police chief

Tom Dornbrook says the Campbellsport police department will have an open door policy when he takes over full time.  Dornbrook will officially begin his duties September 5th after the village board approved the hiring last week.  Dornbrook has been serving as interim chief since chief Jay Zautner and sergeant Jen Vodak resigned in May.  “I know that there was some petitions and Facebook comments that the board was micro-managing, but all I can tell you is that my experience with the board is that they’re giving me pretty much free-rein,”  Dornbrook told WFDL news.  Dornbrook says his first act as chief will be to keep the front door to the department unlocked.  “The past administration had sort of kept a locked door mentality there.  There were some board members that had never seen the police department and past board members that had asked to see it and were told to make an appointment,”  Dornbrook said.  “What we’re doing is having a sign  that says Police Department, please come in.”  Dornbrook says the department will also answer the phones instead of having the Sheriff’s Office do it.  Dornbrook says his goal to build positive relationships between the department and the community.    Dornbrook will continue to serve as chief on a part time basis in Brandon until October 15th.
