8-24-17 jt. finance committee to meet on budget

After a two month break, the legislature’s budget-writing Joint Finance committee plans to resume its work on the state’s spending plan Thursday.  The panel will meet to vote on some of the remaining issues in the budget.  The agenda does not call for the committee to vote on transportation funding, the biggest unresolved issue.  State representative Gordon Hintz of Oshkosh is on the committee.  “We’re starting to see some real consequences in terms of schools not hiring teachers, construction projects not moving forward,”  Hintz told WFDL news.  “I think once those consequences start hitting there will be more urgency to get things done.”   Republican state senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac says he’s confident an agreement will be struck soon.  “I’m pretty confident that within the next week that we’ll have a deal with the assembly and the governor that we can move forward.”
