8-23-17 one person seriously hurt in minivan vs. garbage truck crash in fdl county

A Fond du Lac man was seriously injured in a minivan versus garbage truck collision in Fond du Lac County.  Rescue personnel were called to the scene near the area of CTH D and USH 151 shortly after 5am Wednesday.,   Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office were assisted on the scene by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Town of Fond du Lac Fire and First Responders, City of Fond du Lac Fire/Ambulance, Theda Star, and the Fond du Lac County Highway Department.  A preliminary investigation indicates that a Waste Management truck was backing out of a driveway at N5404 CTH D to travel south on CTH D. A southbound vehicle struck the passenger side of the Waste Management truck and both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane of CTH D. The driver and lone occupant of the Waste Management truck is a 52-year-old Waupun male who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver and lone occupant of the southbound vehicle is a 64-year-old Fond du Lac male who was not wearing his seatbelt. The driver of the southbound vehicle was transported by helicopter from the scene by Theda Star to Theda Medical Center in Neenah with critical injuries. The driver of the Waste Management truck went to St. Agnes hospital to be checked for injuries and was released with no injuries.  CTH D was closed between USH 151 and Hawes Ct for approximately 3 hours.  The crash is being investigated by the Fond du Lac County Sheriffs Office.
