Fond du Lac residents were startled Wednesday night when a couple tornado sirens sounded. Emergency management Director Bobbi Hicken says there was no tornado warning and the city electrician will examine the sirens to see why there was a malfunction. “When I did hear the sirens I was actually at home and so I called dispatch right away. They were not aware the sirens had started,” Hicken told WFDL news. “It was very faint, so you could tell it was only a couple.” Hicken says the city electrician will examine the sirens Thursday. “It sounds like there may have been a lightning strike or power surge, or something that may have activated a couple of the sirens.” Hicken admits the timing was not good with the potential for severe weather in the area. “That was a very intense looking storm that was coming through so the lightning and everything along with it did not help at all. Appreciate you (WFDL radio) getting the word out immediately.”
