4-21-17 fdl public library teen photo contest winners

In January, the Fond du Lac Public Library put a call out to creative teens to enter their third annual Teen Photo Contest, expecting – as usual – to see a few dozen images, perhaps besting last year’s 50-plus entries. At the April 1 deadline, the library discovered that more than 130 photos were entered by students in grades 6 through 12 from every corner of Fond du Lac County.
The VIP panel of judges took hours of painstaking deliberation to settle on one grand prize winner and, in a nod to the overwhelming creativity on display, one winner and one runner-up in each of the three contest categories: Shadows, Black and White and Anything Goes. The winners:

  • Grand prize: Eliza Rabe, grade 7, Faith Lutheran School (wins $250 Visa card)
  • Anything Goes category winner: Joseph Krahn, grade 8, home school; runner-up: Emily Cannon, grade 10, Fond du Lac High School
  • Shadows category winner: Austin Lee Scott, grade 12, Fond du Lac High School; runner-up: Jayda Janeczko, grade 8, Rosendale Intermediate School
  • Black and White category winner: Hannah Preissner, grade 12, Winnebago Lutheran Academy; runner-up: Avery Johnson, grade 7, Shepherd of the Hills School

Category winners receive their photographs professionally printed and framed, courtesy Gallery and Frame Shop. Runners-up receive professional printing and matting.  All entries will be on display in the library’s Langdon Divers Gallery from May 3 to June 6. An awards ceremony and public reception will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 11. Refreshments will be served.  Entries were judged on April 17 by Julie Balson, owner of Gallery and Frame Shop; Brian Kolstad, professional photographer and senior application developer at wisnet.com; and Mary Christopherson, a graphic designer with BrownBoots Interactive.  The Fond du Lac Public Library supports a high quality of life in Fond du Lac through reading, lifelong learning and community involvement. There are two locations: Main Library, 32 Sheboygan St., and FDLPL Express, near Festival Foods. For more information, visit www.fdlpl.org.
