4-17-17 fdl lead pipe replacement program update

The Fond du Lac Public Works director says 148 homes will be required to have their lead water pipes replaced this year…but the cost is less than anticipated.  Jordan Skiff told the city council this week that assements on all but seven of the homes have come in under $3000.   Skiff says assessment  estimates were mailed out on April 7 to property owners who are scheduled for lead pipe replacements this year.  They can hire their own plumber or participate in a cost share program in which the city pays 35 percent of the project, with a cap of $1,500.  Over a ten year payback plan, the cost will be about $200 a year.  A public hearing on the assessment will be held at the April 26 council meeting.  Street project work would begin on May 30 and is expected to be completed by Nov. 22.
