4-14-17 investigators say overloaded extension cords may have started fdl garage fire

Nobody was injured in a fire that destroyed a garage in Fond du Lac.  Firefighters were called to the scene at 561 West Scott Street to a report of smoke and flames coming from a garage.   Division Chief of Fire Prevention Troy Haase says upon arrival, fire crews found the garage fully involved with fire.  Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire, but not before it caused extensive damage.  The fire did not extend to the adjacent home.  The cause of the fire appears to be  accidental.  “They had extension cords running from the house to the garage.  Probably overloaded extension cords,”  Haase told WFDL news.  “Its one of those things we talk about a lot, about using extension cords, making sure we’re using one extension cord for one item and not overloading it.”   Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue was assisted on scene by the Fond du Lac Police Department.
