2-8-17 fdl city council to consider mandatory lead service line replacement plan

Do Fond du lac residents care if their drinking water service lines contain lead?  The Fond du Lac Public Works director says he is surprised the issue of lead drinking water pipes in the city of Fond du lac hasn’t generated more community discussion.  The Fond du lac city council will consider an ordinance at their meeting Wednesday evening that would call for mandatory replacement of private lead water service lines when the public line is replaced.  “We have to look at what we can afford to do and how popular the program would be,”  Skiff told WFDL news.  “I’ve been really surprised that this issue has not raised more interest among our citizens than it has.”   Skiff says the city is also considering offering filters to residents whose streets are not on the schedule to have public service lines replaced.  Skiff says the city council will have to decide during the budget process if replacing lead pipes is a funding priority. The council meets at 6pm Wednesday at the city-county government building.
