003 (2)002010009The City of Fond du Lac Police Department hosted its annual National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony on Wednesday at the Police/Fire Memorial at Hamilton Park. The ceremony is held to help pay tribute to the more than 20,000 law enforcement officers that have been killed in the line of duty in the United States.  Police Chief Bill Lamb recognized the service and sacrifices of the three City of Fond du Lac Police Officers and one Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper that have been shot and killed in the line of duty in the service and protection of our community.  In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. In 2016, National Police Week will be Sunday, May 15 through Saturday, May 21; with Police Officer’s Memorial Day being Sunday, May 15.
