3-1-16 feingold: national gop a mess

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — U.S. Senate hopeful Russ Feingold says the national Republican Party is a mess.  Feingold, a Democrat, made the remarks during a question-and-answer session with reporters following a short speech Monday at the Wisconsin State Council of Machinists spring conference at a Madison hotel.  Asked about disarray in the Republican Party after Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse said he won’t vote for GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, Feingold said the party has been trying to appeal to one-issue voters. That approach might win an election or two but ultimately creates a mess. He says that’s what Republicans face now.  He says the GOP used to be about economic development. Now, he says, it’s about everything else.  A spokesman for Feingold’s opponent, incumbent Republican Ron Johnson, didn’t immediately respond to an email.
