2-5-16 nfdl village board tables vote on sex offender ordinance

The North Fond du Lac village board is holding off on voting on an ordinance that would ban out of county sex offenders from being placed in the village.  The issue came to light after the Department of Health Services tried to place a violent sex offender from Milwaukee County in the town of Eldorado.  That request was withdrawn after the township passed an ordinance banning out of county sex offenders from being located in the town.  But North Fond du Lac police chief Darren Pautsch says after hearing from state officials this week he’s not convinced the board will formally adopt an ordinance after all.   “The information that was presented to them by the Department of Corrections I think really put them (board) at ease with how the whole system is set up and how things work,”  Pautsch told WFDL news.  “I’m not convinced that they’ll pursue an ordinance at this time.  Pautsch says it appears the town of Eldorado situation is an anomaly.  He says  its important to keep in mind that there are very few violent sex offenders getting placed in Wisconsin.  Pautsch says the legislature is also looking to tighten legislation regarding the placement of convicted sex offenders.
