2-5-16 fdl high school receives certification for biomedical science and engineering programs

Fond du Lac High School recently announced that it has received national certification for its Project Lead The Way programs. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for K-12 students and teachers. PLTW Engineering empowers students to step into the role of an engineer, adopt a problem-solving mindset, and make the leap from dreamers to doers, and has been offered since 2012-13. PLTW Biomedical ScienceTM introduces students to medicine and human body systems, preparing them for careers in medical and health-related fields, and has been offered since the 2014-15 school year. In addition to K-12 curricular pathways, PLTW provides teachers with high-quality professional development training that gives them the support and resources they need to devote more time to inspiring students.  The national PLTW recognition distinguishes schools for successfully demonstrating a commitment to PLTW’s national standards. “We’ve seen how PLTW inspires students to think critically and problem solve,” said Tammy Krug-Pickart, Career Technical Education Coordinator. “We are extremely proud to be PLTW certified.”  As part of the recognition process, Principal Michelle Hagen and a team composed of teachers, staff, students and members of the community submitted a self-assessment of the school’s implementation of PLTW Biomedical Science and PLTW Engineering, followed by a site visit from a PLTW-affiliated team. PLTW’s team met with teachers, school administrators, counselors, students and members of the school’s Partnership Team. A PLTW school’s Partnership Team (sometimes referred to as an Advisory Council) is comprised of teachers, counselors, administrators, post-secondary representatives, business and industry professionals and other community members who actively support the PLTW program within a school.    For more information on PLTW, you may contact Jennifer Cahill, PLTW senior director of media and public relations, at (317) 669-0871 or jcahill@pltw.org.
